Interpretation
Interpretation is the oral translation of content from one language to another. And with 195 countries around the globe and more than 23 major languages spoken, interpretation is one of the most important needs of today’s world. Interpretation is very important in facilitating global communication between people from different nations speaking different languages. From politics to media, from marketing research to education, and from trade to medical services, interpretation is an essential element that enables people speaking different languages to overcome multilingual communication barriers. Examples of interpretation could be easily seen in our everyday life.
In the field of politics, we can it in live events of international organizations such as the United Nations General Assembly meetings, or the Group of Twenty (G20). Such live events have speakers and attendees from speaking different languages, while the event itself is usually transmitted live to many countries. When it comes to medical services and healthcare sector, we can see for example that, according to the Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI), The Middle East has become a leading market for UK practitioners. While also the Arab Tourism Organization (ATO) reported that Arabs are responsible for around 30% of the value of all medical tourism across the world each year.
There are two types of interpretation:
* Simultaneous interpretation: which means that the speech is being translated in the real time while the speaker continues talking. An example to simultaneous interpretation is live conferences of international organizations, like the United Nations (UN).
* Consecutive interpretation: which means that the speech is being translated in the pauses made by the speaker. An example to consecutive interpretation is during medical reservations and consultations provided to foreign patients.
Interpretation could be done in multiple forms:
- On-site: like in conferences and other live events.
- Remote: like in virtual meetings.
- Over-the-Phone: like in medical reservations and consultations provided to foreign patients.
